Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda

Winston Churchill in 1907 named Murchison Falls National Park as ‘Kew Gardens and the zoo combined on an unlimited scale’. Murchison Falls National Park is regarded as the most interesting and largest National Park in Uganda covering the area of about 3,840 sq. km. Todate, Murchison Falls National Park is larger to upto 5,072 sq.kms including Bugungu wildlife reserves and the adjoining Karuma.

Murchison Falls National Park is found in the north western part of Uganda from shore of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile and the park is known for its wildlife. Murchison Falls National Park is regarded as the oldest conservation park that was gazetted in 1926 as away of protecting the savanna. At Murchison Falls, the River Nile runs through a narrow crevice and after plunges 40 metres in one breathtaking leap.

The Murchison Falls is regarded as the strongest natural water flow in the world. While at Murchison Falls, you may be lucky to see a Nile perch weighing 100kg from the river. With the help of Able Safaris Ltd, you can have an opportunity to carry out sport fishing.

The lodge that is located on the Northern part of the bank of the Nile was built in 1959 and reconstructed in 1997. Paraa Safari Lodge also caters for the disabled with 2 unique rooms for them and the cottage room. Nile safari Lodge Nile Safari Lodge luxury tented camp is found on the southern bank of the Nile and its personalized with a compelling bush character and riverbank location. Nile Safari Lodge is comprised of several luxury tents and wooden cottages with each having shower rooms, toilet and private balconies facing the Nile. The restaurant is built with Natural materials and offer international cuisines and an excellent swimming pool. Medium/moderate Accommodation
Sambiya Lodge Sambiya lodge is a moderate type of accommodation having 20 cottages and basic bandas with self contained rooms having hot showers and toilet. For those who are interested in camping, Sambiya Lodge has a campsite. The Lodge is 20 minutes drive from the Top of the Falls and its convenient for chimp tracking and birding in Budongo forest. Sambiya Lodge has an excellent restaurant offering international cuisines and also a swimming pool for relaxation.

Budget accommodation and Camping
Red Chilli Rest Camp
The rest camp is located on the southern part of the Nile in the bush and you will have an opportunity to see the warthog, birds and bushbucks. The rest camp consists of the brick bandas with electricity but the rooms aren’t self contained and the services are shared.

Rabongo Camp
This campsite is found in the southeastern part of the part and in Rabongo forest. Because of the Forest you will have an opportunity to see different primates and birds like the African finfoot and the Shining Blue Kingfisher.

Top of Murchison Falls
This campsite has water that is safe for swimming and its good for birding.
